When to use Cookbook Publishers

If you want to make your own cookbook there are different ways you could go about it.

  1. Do all the layout yourself.
  2. Use a desktop cookbook program.
  3. Use a cookbook publisher.

Doing the layout yourself

If you are good with a program like Microsoft Word or Microsoft Publisher you could do all the layout yourself such as putting ingredients in two columns and placing the contributor and title of the recipe in exactly the places you like. You could then print on your own printer or take to your local copy shop.

Using a desktop cookbook program

There are programs you can purchase or download that will also set up a recipe book for you. You would then have to print out again on your own printer and possibly might also have the option of taking to your copy shop as well.

Using cookbook publishers

This is another option for you. Now if you are just doing a few books the above options might be better for you, but if you are doing 25 or more, then a cookbook publisher might be the better choice. Often you will actually save money. More often than not it will be more economical to use a cookbook publishing company than printing on your own printer or going to a copy service. Most cookbook companies offer an online way of entering recipes so all you have to worry about is just entering the information. Cookbook publishers will add the table of contents and index for you. You don’t need any special computer skills. All you need to know is how to type.
